Mechanical Engineer
Mechanical Engineer
We are working with an established engineering and manufacturing company on the search for a Mechanical Engineer to design electro-mechanical products, take them from prototype to production, and keep them running smoothly on the factory floor.
Location: On-site, Fitchburg, MA
Pay range: $70,000 to $90,000 base salary
Employment type: Full-time
About the company
Our client is an established, multi-site engineering and manufacturing company that designs and builds custom electro-mechanical products for customers in industrial, medical, and aerospace and defense markets. They work alongside their customers from early concept through full-rate production, pairing in-house design engineering with their own manufacturing floors, so engineers here see their work go from CAD to a shipped product. The company is investing in its engineering and quality teams and building one shared way of working across its sites.
About the role
You will join the engineering team supporting the development and production of electro-mechanical human-machine interface (HMI) products, including keypads, membrane switches, enclosures, and PCB and flex circuit assemblies. You will research, design, develop, and test hardware from prototype through production, translating customer requirements into robust, production-ready designs. You will also work with the design team, develop tooling and fixtures, support the production, test, and quality groups, and troubleshoot issues during pilot builds and full production.
Responsibilities
· Design and refine mechanical assemblies and components that meet functional, performance, and manufacturability requirements for HMI and electro-mechanical products.
· Work with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams to create and update 3D and 2D CAD models and drawings that reflect customer and production needs.
· Apply sound design principles and ASME Y14.5 to produce high-quality drawings, bills of materials, and engineering change and work orders for new and existing products.
· Write product specifications and choose materials and components that hit performance, durability, and cost targets.
· Build models and prototypes, test the design, and modify it to meet customer requirements.
· Prepare product reports and documentation, communicate with customers and internal teams, and deliver design proposals and project updates.
· Organize and maintain documentation for designs and modifications.
Must-have qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent degree.
· 3+ years in mechanical product engineering.
· Hands-on experience with 3D and 2D CAD (Autodesk Inventor and/or AutoCAD preferred).
· Ability to run simulations and analyze test data.
· Clear, thorough technical writing and documentation.
· Comfortable working in a team and explaining technical detail clearly.
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Nice-to-have
· High-mix, low-volume electro-mechanical manufacturing experience.
· Design and test experience in aerospace and defense (e.g. MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461).
· Material selection for environmental and electromagnetic performance.
· Injection molding design.
· Familiarity with mechanical switches, rubber design, and membrane design.
· Adobe Illustrator and/or Corel.
· 3D printing.
Additional requirements
· Due to ITAR and/or CUI compliance, this position requires candidates to be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Individual per 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
· Candidates being considered for hire must pass a pre-employment background check.
What we offer
· A comprehensive benefits package: medical, dental, and vision, company-paid life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, and an employee assistance program.
· Paid sick leave, vacation, and company-paid holidays.
· A 401(k) with a company contribution.
